….how to paint kitchen cabinets (without sanding)

Painting kitchen cabinets. Its pretty low on the list of home renovations that I enjoy.

Back in February of this year, my husband and I sold our first home. It was such a lovely place, but needed quite a bit of work. Fortunately (and maybe unfortunately), we are DIY-er so we were able to tackle most of the projects ourself. The kitchen was overall updated, but since the day we moved in I always wanted to redo the kitchen cabinets. They were white, laminate cabinets. Generally, they were in good condition except where the laminate was beginning to peel, which was mainly around the areas that were close to heat sources. Because of that I was a little intimidated to take on that large of a project.

Let’s fast forward to now. The house we purchased this spring once again has a great kitchen that doesn’t need to have anything done to it. However…

Its such a lovely kitchen so I completely understand there is no need to make any changes, however, I really wanted to make the space our own and update it a little bit.

The one thing that I really hate with renovation projects? Sanding. I hate it. I hate the process of sanding down pieces and if I can be honest with you, I will cut corners most of the time which doesn’t always end in the best results.

Enter BeyondPaint. It popped up as an ad on Facebook one day so I scooted over to google to do some research. The reviews were good. People seemed to use the product with ease and were very pleased with the results.

What we purchased:

  • 1 gallon BeyondPaint in Bright White
  • 1 gallon BeyondPaint in Soft Grey
  • 4-inch roller with 3/8 nap
  • Soft bristle brush
  • Simple Green spray
  • Rags

What we did:

Prep| We cleaned the surface down with Simple Green which you can buy at lowes.

Brush| I painted any area on the cabinet that a roller wouldn’t reach as well as the edges that meet the wall. We held off on painting our kitchen walls so being precise wasn’t to much of an issue for us.

Roll| Using the 4-inch roller, I slowly rolled each cabinet. The paint is thick, but you don’t to worry about the paint running.
